The Grade 10 Music Program offers a study of various kinds of music from the different countries such as India, the middle east and some parts of Europe during the medieval times. It aims to discover the role of music in a culture and its importance in people’s lives. The students will experience these music traditions through listening to recordings, watching videos, singing different folk songs, playing of traditional and non-traditional instruments and analyzing musical characteristics and styles. These cultural concepts and musical styles are then adapted in their creative compositions and presentations.
The course also aims to deepen the students understanding of how traditional music is deeply rooted in its countries’ psyche that provided them the identity that makes them unique and yet maintain a commonality that connect them to other nations. They will also learn to value the universality of music.
The program provides a wide variety of inter-active activities such as song interpretation, creative instrumental improvisation, music appreciation, simple composition and traditional music presentation that will contribute to the enhancement of students’ musicality.
